Safe, modern wiring for renovations and older homes

Wiring is the backbone of your home's electrical system, and outdated or damaged wiring is one of the most common causes of electrical fires. Older homes may still rely on knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring that can't safely handle modern electrical loads — and any renovation or addition is the perfect time to bring things up to today's standards.

Power Up handles full and partial rewiring for renovations, additions, and aging homes. We plan the work carefully, minimize disruption to your home, and make sure every circuit is installed cleanly, labeled correctly, and fully up to code.

FAQ

Common questions

Don't see your question? Call us at 401-309-9255 — we're happy to help.

How do I know if my home needs rewiring?+

Warning signs include frequent breaker trips, flickering lights, discolored or warm outlets, a burning smell, two-prong outlets throughout, or knob-and-tube/aluminum wiring. Homes more than a few decades old are worth having inspected — we'll assess yours and tell you honestly what, if anything, needs updating.

Is knob-and-tube or aluminum wiring dangerous?+

Both can be. Knob-and-tube wiring lacks a ground and can't safely handle modern loads, while aluminum wiring is prone to loose connections that create heat. Neither is automatically an emergency, but both are worth evaluating and often replacing for safety and insurance reasons.

Do I have to rewire the whole house at once?+

Not necessarily. We do both full and partial rewiring. If only certain circuits or areas are a concern, we can address those — though a renovation is often the most cost-effective time to update everything at once.

Will rewiring damage my walls?+

We work to minimize disruption and access wiring as cleanly as possible. Some openings may be necessary, but we plan the work to keep them to a minimum and leave your home tidy.

Does rewiring require permits?+

Yes. Rewiring requires an electrical permit and inspection in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. We handle the permitting and inspection as part of the job.
