Generator Load Testing

A generator that starts isn't the same as one that performs. Our load testing puts your standby generator under real load to confirm it can carry your home when an outage hits — across Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

Generator Services

Proof your generator will perform when it matters

It's easy to assume a standby generator is ready just because it starts during its weekly self-test. But starting up with no load is very different from carrying your whole home through a multi-day outage. Problems with capacity, cooling, fuel delivery, and components often only show up under real load.

Power Up performs generator load testing that simulates real demand, so you find out how your generator actually performs before you're depending on it. We measure output, watch for issues under load, and give you a clear report on your generator's health and readiness.

FAQ

Common questions

Don't see your question? Call us at 401-309-9255 — we're happy to help.

Doesn't the weekly self-test prove my generator works?+

Not entirely. The automatic exercise cycle confirms the generator starts and runs briefly, usually with little or no load. It does not prove the unit can carry your home's full demand for hours or days. Load testing fills that gap by verifying real performance under load.

How often should I have a load test done?+

An annual load test is a good baseline for most home standby generators, and is often recommended for commercial and critical installations. We'll suggest a cadence based on your generator and how essential uninterrupted power is for you.

What problems can load testing reveal?+

Load testing can uncover issues that don't appear at idle — insufficient output, overheating, fuel delivery problems, voltage and frequency instability, and weak components. Finding these in a controlled test is far better than discovering them mid-outage.

Is load testing important for businesses?+

Especially so. For businesses that can't afford downtime, load testing provides documented assurance that the generator will carry critical systems during an outage. We perform load testing for commercial generators as well as residential units.

What happens if my generator fails the test?+

We'll explain exactly what underperformed and what it will take to correct it, then get your approval before doing any repair work. The point of testing is to find and fix issues on your schedule, not during an emergency.
